This is a glossary for my blog and webpage, where I may reference terminology in a particular domain of knowledge that general viewers may not be familiar with.- Bidanshi (美男子) - a character arc type derived from the Japanese term for "handsome man".
- Bifauxnen - a false Bishounen. A female character who resembles a beautiful androgynous boy.
- Bishounen (美少年) - a character arc type derived from the Japanese term for "youthful beautiful boy".
- BL (少年愛) - a genre of fictional media originating from Japan that features homoerotic relationships between men, primarily written for and consumed by female audiences.
- Doujinshi (同人誌) - a Japanese self-published work, typically manga, novels, or magazines created by amateurs or professionals outside regular industry channels. These self-published works are often sold at conventions and feature original concepts or fan fiction made by fans of intellectual properties.
- Fujoshi (腐女子) - a Japanese term for female fans of BL.
- Geikomi (ゲイコミ) - a type of Japanese manga created by and for homosexual men, and is distinctly different from BL.
- GL (百合) - a genre of fictional media originating from Japan that features lesbian relationships between women.
- Ikemen (イケメン) - a Japanese slang term used to describe good-looking men in Japanese pop culture or everyday life. Not to be confused with Bidanshi, a word used for fictional depictions of attractive men.
- Josei (女性) - a Japanese demographic targetting adult women over 18+.
- Joseimuke (女性向け) - a Japanese term for a wide range of media, such as video games, anime, and manga, targeting a female audience with a broader appeal beyond just romance simulation.
- Mecha (メカ) - a subgenre of science fiction anime featuring piloted, or sentient humanoid giant super robots.
- Ojisan (おじさん) - a character arc type derived from the Japanese term for "uncle". It is in this specific context used to refer to a handsome old man.
- Oshi (推し) - a Japanese term for one's favorite idol or fictional character.
- Oshikatsu (推し活) - a Japanese term describing the phenomenon observed in the lifestyle of fans that passionately support a favorite idol or fictional character through extreme devotion.
- Otome Game (乙女ゲーム) - a type of story-based video game for female audiences featuring romance as the primary objective of gameplay.
- Seinen (青年) - a Japanese demographic targeting adult men over 18+.
- Seiyuu (声優) - the Japanese term for voice actor and actress.
- Shounen (少年) - a Japanese demographic targeting young boys under 18.
- Shota (ショタ) - a character arc type derived from the Japanese name Shotaro used to describe a small male character with a youthful and cute appearance, but is not necessarily a juvenile. This term is to NOT be confused with shotacon.
- Shoujo (少女) - a Japanese demographic targeting young girls under 18.
- Yumejoshi (夢女子) - a Japanese term for female fans who engage in "self-shipping" by pairing themselves or an original character with a fictional character.
